People are being bombarded these days with get-rich-quick strategies, extreme quick weight loss plans, and find your match online commercials, just to name a few “solutions” the world has to offer.

The truth is that the Word of God contains the answer to every problem you will ever face and every shortcoming you may experience. I can remember a time in my life when I would have given practically anything to get the quick fix for my financial problems, but there was no solution that could have fixed my problems, except to outlast them by discovering how to increase financially God’s way.

I believe Jesus’ best teaching on the subject of financial increase and financial longevity is contained in Matthew chapter 6, and it has been one of those anchors for me whenever I have hit a tough spot. Among other things, in verse 22, Jesus talks about your eyes. He says, “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.” God wants access to your eyes because they are the gateway into the mind and the spirit. Total prosperity and financial longevity involves giving God the ability to influence your eyes as well as your other senses.

As you continue reading in this chapter, Jesus tells us what to look at.

Matthew 6:25-26 “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?”

Jesus tells us not to think about certain things—the things you eat, drink, or the clothes that you wear. And then He gives us something to replace our worried thoughts with…consider the birds. Jesus is so smart and wise! There is nowhere in the entire world where birds do not exist. Notice He didn’t say to go look at the squid or giraffes—you would have to travel somewhere to look at them. It wouldn’t be an easy thing for everyone in the world to do that. He knew that birds existed on every continent in the world. Even the research scientists that work in the South Pole have penguins to look at!

Not long ago as I drove up my snow-covered driveway, I saw a bunch of blackbirds pecking away at something, and the Lord said, “Look at that! Look at those birds. I am taking care of them when all you can see is snow. Just think about that!” Whether it is a penguin in the South Pole, a vulture in the desert, or a blackbird in Alabama, it is amazing where birds can thrive.

In conclusion, next time worries try to close in on you, and you begin to fret about what tomorrow holds,  just remember the words of Jesus, and DO THEM…”Behold the fowls of the air!”
