I have great news for you! God is still on the throne, Jesus is returning SOON, and you have EXACTLY what you need for this day and hour…the Holy Ghost living on the inside of you!
Acts 1:8, But ye shall receive POWER, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Jesus’ instructions to the disciples was to go nowhere and attempt nothing until they had received power, and that power was the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. From the beginning, the church has been endowed with and instructed to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus did not want anything attempted without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, and the book of Acts is the story of the church walking in that power.
Throughout the book of Acts, the empowering of the Holy Spirit was accompanied by speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gave utterance. The church of Acts did not form committees to develop new strategies or new methods to reach the world. World evangelism was accomplished by men who were empowered.
On the first Pentecost, when Moses received the law on Mt. Sinai, the church in the wilderness lost 3,000 men that day. When the church received the Holy Spirit on Pentecost in Acts, 3,000 men were born into new life and added to the family of God that day. On Moses’ Pentecost, God wrote the law with his finger on tablets of stone. On the Pentecost of Acts, God wrote His law into the hearts of men with His finger…the Word as inscribed by the Holy Spirit. The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
In the early church of Acts, wisdom was given and challenges were answered by the power of the Holy Spirit, and this must be our pattern today if we are to experience the same success, for there is no substitute for the power, wisdom, and leading of the Holy Spirit. Just as nothing can take the place of rain on the planted fields, so can nothing take the place of the Holy Spirit that falls like rain upon the fields of the church. First Corinthians 12 tells us that God does not want us ignorant of the things of the Spirit, and that ignorance is dispelled by the fullness of the Spirit.
What the church of Acts lacked in its inexperience was more than compensated for by its dependence on the Holy Spirit. Programs and methods are fine until they become a substitute for the Holy Spirit, and if they ever become a substitute for the Holy Spirit, then they will be a snare. No amount of natural effort can produce the same results.
I Corinthians 14:2, For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him: howbeit, in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
It is being filled to overflowing and speaking with other tongues that reveals the mysteries of the kingdom of God to men. Oh, that believers knew and believed in the power that praying in other tongues has in their lives! The vastness of this power will only be experienced by those who yield to it. It brings answers to questions and peace to confusion.
What do we do if we’ve grown tired and weary? Pray in other tongues!
Isaiah 28: 11-12, For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest: and this is the refreshing.
How do we overcome fear and timidity? Pray in other tongues!
I Corinthians 14:4, He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself.
What if our vision has grown dim and our imagination is troubling us? Pray in other tongues!
John 16:13, Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come.
What if we’re challenged in our love walk? Pray in other tongues!
Jude 1:20-21, But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
The church was birthed in power. The same fire and glory that Israel witnessed on Sinai was witnessed in the upper room of Acts 2 so that the church would never be without power. The manifestations of the Spirit are given to equip the believer and to carry out the great commission. Let us not forget that PRAYING IN THE HOLY GHOST TAPS INTO THE MINISTRY AND MANIFESTATIONS OF THE HOLY GHOST.
