Faith That Stands
April 29, 2026
What makes the difference between faith that stands strong and faith that seems to waver under pressure?
James 1:2 says, “Count it all joy when you fall into various tests and trials.” Joy is not based on circumstances; it is a fruit of the Spirit. When you choose joy in the middle of a trial, you are doing more than just putting on a good attitude. You are reaching down into your spirit and drawing from something deeper than what you feel.
You are declaring to the situation and to the enemy that you are not moved. There is something powerful about that kind of response. It is like a signal that says, “I am not backing down. I am not giving up. I am standing on what God said.” This leads us to something absolutely essential when it comes to faith: endurance.
James 1:3 tells us that the trying of your faith produces patience, and that word patience means endurance. It is the ability to stay steady, to go the distance, to remain unmoved no matter how long it takes. It is continuing to believe when you do not see immediate results. It is holding your ground when the pressure does not let up. It is staying in joy, staying in faith, and refusing to quit.
There is a purpose to endurance. “Let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, lacking nothing” (James 1:4). That is where God wants you to live. So how do we get there?
The answer is simple, but it requires action. “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only” (James 1:22). Although hearing is essential because this is where faith comes from, it is not enough just to hear the Word. The manifestation of God’s blessing in your life comes in the doing.
Jesus said something similar in Luke 6:47- 48 when He described two people: one who built his house on the sand and one who built his house on the rock. He likened the first man to a person who only heard His words. But the second man, the one who built his house on the rock, was a person who not only heard His words, but also did them. Because of his actions, the house stood firm when the storm came.
Years ago, when Phyllis and I were facing a challenging season of life, we experienced the fruit of building our house on the Rock. The storm came. It was loud and boisterous for a time, but it did not overcome us. It may have knocked a few shingles loose from the house, but we did what the Word said and counted it all joy. As a result, we stood strong, and our family stood strong. We let patience (endurance) have her perfect work!
The difference was not the storm. Both people mentioned in Luke 6 faced the same storm. The difference was the foundation. And that foundation is built by hearing and doing the Word of God. That is why it is so important not just to hear what God is saying, but to do what He is saying to you.
God speaks through His Word. He speaks through preaching. He speaks in your time of prayer. He speaks by His Spirit. And when He speaks to you, that is where your responsibility begins.
Faith comes by hearing, but it does not stop there. Once you have heard, then you step out and act on what He said.
That is exactly what those servants did in John chapter 2. Jesus told them to fill the waterpots with water, and they did it. Then He told them to draw it out and take it to the governor, and they did it. At some point in that process, the water became wine. We do not know exactly when it happened, but we do know this: if they had stopped at any point, they would have missed the miracle. The miracle was in the doing, and the same is true for us.
Many times, people are waiting for something to change before they act. But faith does not wait for evidence. It responds to what God said. When you hear from God and act on His Word, you position yourself for the supernatural.
When you hear His Word and respond in faith, you can receive everything He has provided: healing, provision, restoration, and victory.
But it all comes back to hearing and doing. It’s more than knowing, it’s acting. It’s more than agreeing, it’s responding.
As we continue to build faith and strengthen our foundation, I want to encourage you to stay in the Word. Keep hearing. Keep responding. Keep doing what God has spoken to your heart because that is where the blessing is.
