In December of 2018 during our visit to Ukraine, we ministered in Pastor Dmitri and Olga Kazantsev’s church upon our arrival. We held a service in a conference room that they had been renting for more than ten years. Each Sunday they would set up and tear down all of their chairs and equipment and were required to be out of the building by a certain time.
During my previous visit to Ukraine, he had shown me his building under construction and told me that he was building it debt free, but due to the country’s economic problems, this project had just about come to a halt. During our time together in December I asked him what the estimate to complete the building was, thinking it would probably run several hundred thousand dollars. Phyllis and I were surprised when he said that because of the strength of the US dollar there he could finish it for about $40,000.
During the service, I was impressed by the Holy Spirit to help him re-start this project in order to bring it to completion. Phyllis and I purposed to sow half of it. We then presented it to the people, and funds were pledged and given that night to help with the balance of the money needed. There was great liberty and response in the service and the people were excited to get involved.
What none of us knew was that the very next day the new owners of the facility the church had used for over 10 years were planning to announce they would no longer rent to the church. They only allowed them to meet one more Sunday morning in order to inform the congregation. Obviously the Holy Spirit knew and had made provision for His people. Since they had already installed heating in the unfinished facility, they were able to go ahead and move into the new building.
Praise God we were able to fulfill our commitment, thanks to our friends and partners who sowed into this project. These pastors are GOOD GROUND. The spirit of faith is ALL OVER THEM, and they are truly having a great impact in this region of the world.
Just the other day, my daughter-in-law shared with me how the Lord impressed upon her the importance that this building get finished. For several weeks she had been purposing to hear God’s thoughts for the day before her own thoughts started speaking. As she awoke this particular morning, she immediately heard, “I want that building finished.” This was God’s thought. He cares so much that His people have a place to gather and worship, and He honors faith—it matters not to Him what part of the world it is or the economic situation.
If you’d still like to sow towards this special project, you may do so online or on our app and choose the designated fund “Ukraine Church Building.” If you prefer to write a check, please designate “Ukraine Church Building” in the memo line.
