Happy New Year! I am always thankful when a New Year arrives, because with it comes new hope, new vision, and new expectation! Have you taken the time to Write the Vision as the Word instructs us in Habakkuk 2? Here are some things to consider as you set 2019 in motion.

Exodus 12 gives the account of how God supernaturally protected His people from the plague in Egypt. In fact, God declared it would be a New Year for His people. He gave them specific instructions on what to do, what to wear, what to eat, etc. Then when the time came for judgment to be executed against the false gods of Egypt, His people were protected.

Exodus 12:13-14, And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your generations.

In this New Year He was taking them out of their old lifestyle (that of bondage and slavery) and into a new life, a new way, and new surroundings. Along with a change in location, there were also old ways of thinking that had to be left behind.

Friend, the same is true for you and me! If you’re expecting God’s best this year, then you’re going to have to let go of some things that are hindrances to your faith. While the Israelites struggled to leave the old behind because they had been in captivity for so long, we do the same thing without even realizing it. We may not relate to the lifestyle they lived, but too often God’s children find themselves in slavery to other forms of bondage.

  1. It is time to let go of it completely! It is a weight and a burden that will keep you from moving forward. In Mark 11:22-25, along with the greatest example in the Bible concerning faith, Jesus tells us that unforgiveness is the greatest hindrance to faith. If you want the mountains removed and your prayers answered, then leave unforgiveness behind. CHOOSE TO FORGIVE!
  2. The world, the media, and people in general are extremely negative. Make sure your words are filled with faith and expectation for what God has promised you. Oftentimes, a bad experience will create the opportunity for someone to turn negative on whatever they are facing. Whether it is a job situation, an unanswered prayer, or a failed relationship, turn to the Word for direction in speaking about the situation. You won’t find any negativity there. Negativity keeps you stuck in the same place.
  3. Past failures. Satan works overtime to remind you of past failures. Have you heard the story of the farmer and his mule? One day the farmer dug a hole for a new well. That night his mule fell in the hole. This mule was his favorite, but there was no way to get him out. So the farmer decided to go ahead and put him out of his misery. Scoop by scoop, he shoveled the dirt back into the hole to cover the mule. But each time he threw dirt on the mule’s back, the mule shook off the dirt and stepped up. Eventually, the mule just stepped right out of the hole. You may find yourself in a hole right now due to past failures. Regardless of whose fault it is, shake it off and step up. There is a way out, but you won’t get there dwelling on the hole you’re in!

I want to challenge you today to make a decision to let go of any and everything that is holding you back. As long as you hold onto what is in the past, you’ll never fully move into all that God has for you. JUST LET IT GO BECAUSE IT’S GOING TO TAKE BOTH HANDS TO TAKE HOLD OF ALL THAT GOD HAS FOR YOU IN 2019!

I am including a copy of a message I preached at our home church during the last service of 2018. You can find it here and also on our app. I encourage you to listen to it as you prepare to experience God’s absolute best for you in 2019.
