In the early 1980s I followed the call of God into ministry and attended Rhema Bible Training Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I was hired on campus in the maintenance department, and I frequently worked with another student who had a background in heating and air conditioning.  One day I was acting as his helper while we worked on an air conditioning unit, and in the course of the repair something was said that caused him to make this statement, “There’s no such thing as cold, brother.”

His point was that the concept behind the air conditioning system was a matter of heat exchange, and cold was merely the absence of heat. An air conditioner is actually a heat exchanger. There’s no such thing as a cold exchanger because you don’t cool a room by adding cold; rather, you cool it by removing heat. The Spirit of God used that to give me a perspective concerning spiritual things as well as natural things.

God is light, and light is energy. In the physical universe we are constantly dealing with the transfer of energy, and natural processes are all about energy. For instance, take the concept of darkness. Darkness is simply the absence of light. It is not an entity with any power of its own. To illustrate, think about walking into a dark room. The cure for darkness is light so you can simply turn on the light switch so that power can flow. You don’t have to open a door or a window to let the darkness escape because in one sense, it doesn’t really exist except to describe the absence of visible light. This is what he meant by the statement, “There’s no such thing as cold, brother.”

In Genesis 1 we read that God addressed the problem of darkness in creation by speaking the words, “Let there be light.” Notice He didn’t address or even acknowledge the darkness because there was no need. When light proceeded forth from God, the darkness disappeared because it had no power to resist. This same concept is found in reference to Jesus, who is called The Word of God.

John 1:1-5, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Comprehend means to overpower, extinguish, or put out. No matter how heavy and intense the darkness, it retreats from the tiniest light. Actually, the heavier the darkness, the brighter the small light will seem. If you’re in a dark room, the smallest sliver of light shining under the door will show you the way out.

When Adam and Eve were created, they were connected to God’s life and power. There was no death, no sickness, and no lack. None of these things entered the human existence until they sinned, and that sin disconnected them from God’s power. The result was instant spiritual death, sickness, lack, and ultimately physical death. Their condition illustrates what Jesus referred to in John 15 when He said He was the vine and you are the branches.

The life is in the vine or the trunk of the tree. The branches partake of the same life as long as they are connected, but a disconnect from the trunk produces death in the branch. It has been a help to me over the years to consider the curse and its symptoms this way. Rather than some powerful entity that I must overcome, I now see sickness or lack as an absence of God’s life and power working in me. The cure is not to defeat some powerful invisible enemy, but rather, to receive light and power from God.

Paul prayed for the church at Ephesus that the eyes of their understanding would be ENLIGHTENED and that they would know the exceeding greatness of God’s power.  A friend of mine, who now pastors a church, was in his early spiritual life. Both he and his wife were suffering physically, and one day, as he was reading one of Brother Hagin’s books, it explained that Jesus bore our sicknesses and carried our diseases and “by whose stripes ye were healed.” Suddenly he saw “WERE healed”…past tense…already done. When the realization of that hit him, every symptom in his body instantly disappeared. He went into the kitchen where his wife was and excitedly read the same truth to her. She saw it as well and every symptom instantly disappeared from her body! They weren’t prayed for, nor were they ministered to in any other way. THE ENTRANCE OF GOD’S WORD GAVE LIGHT AND THE SPIRITUAL DARKNESS OF SICKNESS WAS DISPERSED.

I carry a note in my Bible that I wrote down in one of Kenneth E. Hagin’s meetings many years ago. God used him greatly in ministering healing during the healing revival of the 20th century, and this is what he said,

“Many people needing healing need to forget about that for a while and pray the prayers in Ephesians 1 & 3 for themselves and get the revelation of Satan and sickness under their feet. All our problems are under our feet.”

If you are struggling in an area and having difficulty receiving from God, pull back and take the time to speak and pray these prayers over yourself. In essence, you are declaring, “LET THERE BE LIGHT!” to your own understanding. When the light does shine, the darkness flees!

According to the Word, there is nothing that will strengthen your faith like “Hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” We’ve included a copy of a teaching Pastor Scott ministered entitled, LET THERE BE LIGHT.

If you would like to plant a seed, you can do so here. God gives seed to the sower and multiplies your seed sown. God richly bless you!
