It is impossible to overemphasize the value of being led by the Holy Spirit. By this divine ability, you will avoid pitfalls and moments of defeat simply by listening and following His lead.

Throughout my life I have enjoyed riding horses—after all, it’s what we cowboys do! Although I have a good idea of how to work a horse, I was taking a riding lesson several months ago. This world-class instructor demonstrated just how great an impact a slight leaning or nudge can have on a horse. Without the nudges and leans a rider uses to communicate with the horse, there is no telling where you would end up. A horse definitely has a mind of its own, and it takes those cues from the rider to end up at the right spot.

We too have a mind of our own, and without the help of the Holy Spirit, our lives would be a complete mess! John 10:10 reveals the will of the Father …I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. There is no surer way to experience this abundant life than with the help of the Holy Spirit. He is here to help make your life light and easy, enjoyable, joyful, and peaceful. He is here to help you overcome obstacles and to add a tailwind to give you that “extra” you need.

In Acts 1, we see where Jesus was speaking to His disciples about what was about to take place. Although they had been saved and had even seen Jesus raised from the dead, Jesus told them to wait in Jerusalem until they were endued with power from on High because He knew they would need it. In order to fulfill what God destined for them to accomplish, they needed the constant presence of the Holy Spirit in them—leading, guiding, and empowering them.

The same Peter who ran out of courage when Jesus was arrested was there when the Holy Spirit was poured out, and never again do we find Peter without courage—only tenacity and boldness to fulfill the call of God upon his life.

Friend, if you’re going to live a victorious life, YOU WILL NEED THE HELP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, and one of the primary ways to access His help is by praying in the Holy Ghost—praying in other tongues regularly and consistently.

Although there are many people we could be praying for and situations we could be praying about, it’s important to recognize that we don’t always need to be mission-minded in our prayer life. Use your prayer language to help sensitize you to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:26 says, Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought. His purpose in your life is to help you!

One of the benefits of praying in the spirit is praying out mysteries. There are six things listed in the New Testament that are called mysteries. One of them is the rapture of the church that Paul revealed. How do you think he received that revelation? By praying in the spirit. First Corinthians 14:2 says, For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. There are mysteries to be revealed for your life by praying in the spirit.

Praying in the spirit gives you the ability to build yourself up. Jude 20 says, But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. Recognize that just as a house isn’t built in a day, so you can’t build your life in a day. It’s a day by day process, and as you yield to praying in other tongues, you will build your life piece by piece—day by day.

If you’re facing a situation that seems overwhelming, praying in the spirit is one of the most effective sources of assured success. Don’t allow the bigness of the situation to deter you from taking it a day at a time, praying in the Holy Ghost. Remember, He is there to help you all the way through to the other side.

Finally, there is a rest available to those who will pray in the Holy Ghost. Isaiah 28:11-12 says, For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing. Life can sure get hectic, but rest belongs to you and can often be acquired by praying in tongues. When you’re taking your shower, driving your car, cooking, etc. use that time to pray in the spirit with the purpose of experiencing that rest and refreshing.

God is so good to us. He gave us everything we would ever need to live a victorious life on this earth. Take advantage of the Holy Spirit living inside of you and yield to His leadings. He will NEVER steer you wrong, but only into life more abundant!
