Put the Dogs Back in the Pen

Do you love the change of seasons like I do? Throughout the Word of God, we find the mention of seasons to remind us that everything we see and experience on this earth is temporary. Right now, in the South, we are seeing green pop up everywhere, flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, and trees that appeared dried up and dead are signaling fresh growth. While we thoroughly enjoy this natural change of season, spiritually speaking, we are seeing the same thing happen in the lives of believers.

For many weeks now, I have been led by the Holy Spirit to preach on the subject of the believer’s authority, and as promised in Mark 16:20, God has confirmed His Word with signs following. We have a family in our church who recently started a business, and up until this point, they had not seen much response or profit from it. The enemy started planting seeds of discouragement and failure into the wife, and she was ready to quit and walk away. The husband, however, recognized what the enemy was trying to do. He took authority over that spirit, commanded it to leave, and declared prosperity over their business. In a matter of hours, they began receiving calls from people wanting to use their services, and within days they had signed contracts with money in the bank

In Matthew 16:19, Jesus tells us, “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

These words were Jesus’ instructions to His disciples, and they are just as relevant and powerful today for us as believers. What you say about your business, your family, your finances, your health, and anything else pertaining to your life matters.

In the testimony I shared about the husband and wife, notice the husband recognized Satan at work attempting to discourage his wife. However, once he bound Satan, commanding him to leave his wife alone, Satan obeyed. He then began declaring prosperity over their business, and within hours, what was being held back was suddenly loosed. Glory to God!

In Luke 9:1-2, we find the time when Jesus sent His disciples on a mission in groups of two. “Then He called His twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.”

As mere men, the disciples could not have accomplished this on their own. However, because they had been given authority by Jesus, who operated under the auspices of the Old Testament prophet, as His representatives, they could carry out Jesus’ instructions to heal the sick and loose the bound.

The same thing is true for you and me, except on a whole new level. What the disciples did in Jesus’ earthly ministry was a shadow of what has been conferred upon us. Too often we sit back and wonder why things are as they are. Friend, this ought not to be.

I was reminded of a time in my life as a kid when my dad liked to bird hunt. At the time, we lived in a neighborhood, and my dad installed a chain link fence for a dog pen on the side of our house. From time to time, the dogs would get out of the fence, and when this happened, I can still hear my dad say, “Go get the dogs and put them back in the pen!”

Guess what? When Jesus rose from the dead, victorious over Satan, over death, over hell, and over the grave, He put the “dogs” back in the pen. Since Adam’s fall, they had been running wild and free, but Jesus took care of business and put them back in the pen.

Today, when the devil attempts to raise his head and act out, just remember that he along with all principalities, powers, and dominions have already been defeated by Jesus, placed in a pen under your feet. Don’t put up with his mess…put him back in the pen where he belongs.

We have another family in our church, whose teenager started acting up. Many parents would have summed up his behavior as the typical teenage mode of operation, but these parents saw it for what it was. The enemy tried working his way into that household through a cracked door, creating division and chaos. But this mother stood up to the enemy, put the “dog” back in the pen, and watched this situation turn completely around in a matter of days.

I want to encourage you today to take a serious look at your domain. If you see an area where the enemy has been creating trouble for you, then remember my dad’s words, and put the dogs back in the pen, under your feet where they belong!

Phyllis and I love you, and we continually pray for you. God has great plans for His church in these last days, and we are thankful to be running our race with you!

Make plans to join us in person or via livestream for these special teaching sessions with Pastor Scott Webb beginning Tuesday, April 2.
