We serve an awesome God! When I think of all that He has done for me, I can’t help but rejoice and be thankful. That is in fact what we are instructed to do. First Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. In this verse the Lord gives clear direction of what His will is for each of his children’s lives.
I was recently ministering in a meeting, and the Lord brought this passage back to me. It is so important to recognize the power in having a thankful heart. We can be tempted to get frustrated because of what isn’t happening in our lives at the moment. That is a trap of the enemy to get you off course in your faith walk. Don’t fall for it! Look around at your life and find something to be thankful for and return that thanksgiving to God. This IS His will for you!
Hebrews 4:12 says, For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The Word of God will do what nothing else can do. What is impossible with man becomes possible with God. You may be looking at your circumstances right now, thinking HOW can it happen or WHEN will it happen? Here is your answer…PUT THE WORD TO WORK FOR YOU!
Many years ago there was a lady who was a part of my mother’s Bible study. One day she had a mental breakdown. One day she was as lively as ever—happily fulfilling her duties as a wife and mother. The next day her mind was gone. She was nothing like the woman she had been just the day before. Her body was there but her mind was nowhere to be found.
Her husband took her to the doctor and they examined her and tried working with her. He was advised by the doctor to divorce her and commit her to an institution and move on with his life. But he and their children knew the Word and the power it contained so he took her home and they decided to put the Word to work.
Every single day her daughter would call her and say, “Mom, say this…I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” Day after day after day, the daughter would get no response. She even tried breaking the words down and getting her mother to repeat them one by one after her, I…..can…..do…..all….things….through….Christ….which….strengthens….me.
Again, no response.
This went on for TWO years! Every single day this persistent woman of faith kept putting the Word to work on her mother regardless of the fact that she got nothing but silence from her, until one day she got a response. In a faint voice her mother repeated the words after her one by one, and from that day forward her mental state improved and eventually was completely healed and restored.
This mother lived to tell her testimony, and she recalled that during those two years it was as if she was living in a deep black hole and there was no way out. But when her daughter would call and say those words, it was as if a lid was barely lifted off that black hole and she could see some light. The day came when the lid was completely removed and she was restored to her family.
It makes no sense to the natural mind to repeatedly do something every day for two years with no apparent result. But we must remember that we can’t see what is taking place in the realm of the Spirit when we speak God’s Word. This is why we, like this daughter, must remain persistent with putting the Word to work. The Word brings light to those in dark places.
The Word will do what nothing else can do. It is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword. It does not matter what situation you are facing today. Put the Word to work and remain thankful throughout the process. You WILL see victory!
