Living the life of faith is the highest way to live. When you are born again, you are given the measure of faith, but from there, it is up to you how far you take your faith.
First Timothy 6:12 says, Fight the good fight of faith… Do you know why it’s called the good fight of faith? Because it is a fight that you win!
Some people have a “retirement” mentality when it comes to faith. They think that at some point in life—later down the road after passing some tests, if you have enough faith built up, then all the problems of life will stop showing up. But that is never the case.
Whether you are in faith or not, there will always be a fight at hand. You may be fighting against fear, sickness, disease, marital problems, career difficulties, or other problems. The good news is that if you are in faith, it is a fight that you WIN!
First John 5:4 says, …this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. If you will keep the switch of faith turned on in the midst of adverse circumstances, you will win!
I want to share with you one key that is vital to your ability to stay on top in the fight of faith: REFUSE TO BE OFFENDED. In Matthew 15, we find the Syrophenician woman who was pleading with Jesus in behalf of her daughter who was possessed of the devil.
But He answered and said, “I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” Then came she and worshipped Him, saying, “Lord, help me.” But He answered and said, “It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.” And she said, “Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered and said unto her, “O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt.” And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
If ever there was a person who had the right to be offended, it was this lady. Can you imagine someone calling you a dog? And what makes it worse is that it was the man who was helping everyone else around who called her a dog. But she refused to let those words offend her.
Her answer to Jesus’ response demonstrated that NOTHING would stop her from receiving what she came for. Jesus said that she had great faith, and one thing that characterized her great faith was the fact that she could not be offended, and that will keep you in the winners’ circle when fighting the good fight of faith.
For over thirty years I have been preaching the message of faith, and many times that consists of teaching people the right way to use their words. It is just as important to know what to do with words coming in as words going out because an offended person will not win the fight of faith.
My friend, Satan will do his best to offend you in some form or fashion, but don’t fall prey to it. You are not ignorant of his devices, and offense is one of his “go-to” devices. If you’re going to live a victorious life, then you are going to have to learn to not be moved by what you hear. This includes things you hear that might be an affront to you.
Follow the example of this Syrophenician woman and act like you didn’t even hear it. Stay on course when fighting the good fight of faith, and just like this woman, you too will win!
