The Power of Precious Seed

Last month, we talked about what it means to give fearlessly—to release what’s in your hand, even when it doesn’t make sense, and trust God to do the miraculous. But there’s another layer to that kind of giving that we need to see. What makes a gift precious in the eyes of God? How does He measure what we give? Is it by the size of the gift—or something deeper?

Psalm 126:5-6 gives us an insight into this principle that’s too important to miss: “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”

Did you get that? For a long time, I read that and imagined someone weeping as they sowed because the seed was so costly, so precious, that it was difficult to release it. But the more I walked with the Lord, the more I began to see it differently. The tears in this passage don’t come from the giving—they come from the pressure, the place the giver is in before sowing the seed.

This depicts someone who is hurting. They’re in a hard place. Perhaps there’s a weight on them—emotionally, financially, maybe even physically. And yet they obey. They don’t wait until things get better or the pressure lifts. They pick up precious seed and they sow in spite of what they’re feeling and facing.

Giving the seed isn’t what made them weep. The weeping came first. The seed was their response to the pressure. And that’s why it’s precious. It’s not given out of comfort—it’s given out of trust. This, my friend, is the kind of seed that gets Heaven’s attention.

There’s another powerful example of this kind of giving in 1 Kings 17. A widow in Zarephath was gathering sticks to prepare what she believed would be her last meal. She had just enough flour and oil for one final cake for herself and her son. But the prophet Elijah brought a word from the Lord: “Make me a little cake first.”

That may sound harsh unless you understand what was actually happening spiritually. God wasn’t trying to take something from her—He was trying to get something to her. And to do it, she had to trust Him enough to give first.

That cake wasn’t a leftover. It wasn’t extra. It was all she had. But when she gave it, something supernatural happened: “The barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail.” God sustained her—day after day, miracle after miracle—because she gave precious seed in a moment of pressure.

I’ve seen this principle at work many times personally. Still, I was recently reminded of a time it happened for a young girl who was attending a meeting where I was ministering on prosperity and the power of seed.

She was just a teenager, the pastor’s daughter, when the revelation of precious seed came to her. She didn’t have money, but she did have something that meant a great deal to her: a small stereo system in her bedroom. It wasn’t flashy, but it was hers. She played worship music on it. It had been a gift from her parents, and it carried meaning.

As I ministered, the Lord spoke to her heart—not audibly but clearly. He prompted her to sow that stereo to her parents. It was personal and private, and she did it as an act of honor and obedience. Naturally, it was difficult for her parents to receive it because they knew how much it meant to her, but they accepted it and agreed with her for a harvest.

And wouldn’t you know it—within days, God responded. First, someone gave her a brand-new wardrobe—clothes she hadn’t asked for and couldn’t have afforded. Then, not one but two different people gave her cars. Two vehicles—both unexpected, both supernatural.

She hadn’t told anyone about her gift. But God saw, and He honored her greatly for her obedience.

In Mark 12, we find Jesus in the temple, watching people put money into the treasury. At that moment, He saw the widow put her last two mites in the offering, and He honored her for it. He brought attention to the fact that the wealthy were putting money into it out of their abundance. However, concerning the widow, He said, “She has given more than all the rest.”

How is that? Because He wasn’t impressed by the size of the offering—He was moved by the sacrifice and the honor. He was watching how they gave, not just what they gave. And, I want you to know that He still watches today.

Friend, you may be in a place where it feels like your seed is small. You may be feeling pressure on every side. But don’t underestimate what happens when you give in obedience. Don’t let the size of the gift determine its value. What matters is the measure of honor, faith, and trust behind it.

I believe the same God who sustained that widow, the same God who multiplied that girl’s obedience, is working in your life right now. I’m standing in faith with you—for provision, for supernatural turnaround, for joy on the other side of what you may be facing today.

Don’t back down. Don’t let go. Sow the seed. Honor the Lord. And watch what He’ll do.

This September 2025, we’re sponsoring a special Healing of the Nations Rally for the Arapaho Nation in Riverton, Wyoming. This is a powerful opportunity to share the love of Jesus and bring light into a community that desperately needs it.

We need your help to make it happen! Our goal is to raise $25,000 to cover the expenses for this rally.

Would you prayerfully consider sowing a special seed today? Every gift makes a difference and helps us show the Arapaho people that they are loved and never forgotten.

Thank you for standing with us to reach hearts and transform lives!
