SW face webA couple of weeks ago, I sat down with my family for a Bible study, and we had a glorious time, stirring ourselves up concerning the promises of God. The Word of God is filled with amazing promises—promises concerning marriage, children and grandchildren, long life, abundant life, prosperity, divine health, wisdom—you name it!

Throughout the Bible you see prophecies spoken and God’s words being fulfilled. In Joshua 1:3, God, speaking to Joshua concerning the children of Israel, said, … every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given you, as I said unto Moses.

Did you know that the children of Israel only put their foot down on ONE-THIRD of the land that God promised them? Do you know that same land is what is being fought over today in the Middle East? Think about that…receiving the promise that God gave way back to Moses and Joshua could have prevented all the fighting over land in the Middle East.

The problem was that the children of Israel did not take the promise seriously. They should have put their feet down on three-thirds or the whole of the land.

So how does this story apply to you?  We can compare it to believers not mixing faith with what was spoken and failing to possess all that rightfully belongs to them (Hebrews 4:1). As a born-again Christian, you have received salvation and because of this, you have been redeemed from spiritual death. You know where you will spend eternity. That is awesome, but what about the rest of your redemptive rights? Are you experiencing ALL that rightfully belongs to you as a child of God? Or have you, like the children of Israel, only put your foot down on “one-third” of what Jesus purchased for you?

If you’re like me, there have been times in your life when it seemed that more promises were being fulfilled than at other times, but that is not on God. What are you expecting TODAY? What are you speaking TODAY?

There is a RIGHT way to approach the promises of God for your life. I saw this not long ago, and ever since then, it has caused such expectancy every single day, and as a result the fulfillment of God’s promises. Hebrews 4:7 in the Message translation reads, God keeps renewing the promise and setting the date as TODAY.

When you wake up in the morning, imagine that a reset button has been pressed for you concerning all of God’s promises.

Do not get comfortable in your victories from the past. Expect victory TODAY! God has pressed the reset button for you TODAY!

Second Samuel 17 contains one of my favorite stories of all time—David and Goliath. Here was a young boy, not more than seventeen years old, who knew how to rely on his covenant with God to defeat every challenge he faced. When he saw the giant in front of him, taunting and threatening, David ran at him and used the same tools he had used to kill a lion and a bear. When I was talking to my grandchildren about this, their eyes lit up because they related to the fact that David was not much older than they are.

Then there is another man—Abraham, the father of many nations—who was not so young when he stepped out in faith. In Genesis 12:4 we see where …Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. This was just after God told him to get out of his country and go to the land that God showed him.

Many people focus on the miracle of Sarah conceiving when Abraham was so old, and that is truly amazing. But Abraham’s first real step of faith was when he left his hometown and followed God. Think about that—he was seventy-five and he was just getting started in his walk of faith.

Both of these stories are prime examples of men who stepped out in faith, relying solely on the promises of God, and received exactly what they believed. Faith is a lifestyle—it works whether you’re sixteen or eighty. You are neither too young nor too old. The key is expecting the fulfillment of the promise TODAY!

Second Corinthians 5:7 (Revised version) says, For we walk by faith, not by appearance. This, my friend, is the way to live. Live by faith, refuse to live by the way things appear, and expect God’s promises to be fulfilled TODAY!
